Official 2003 Levy Referendum Results

District 742 came within forty-six votes of a clean sweep in its quest for five new property tax levies. Questions 1, 2, 3 and 5 were approved by voters Nov. 4. Question 4, which would have raised about $300,000 a year, failed. It would have funded computer replacement and technology infrastructure improvements.

Question 1 will produce about $2.5 million a year. The money will prevent further budget cuts and improve financial stability.

Question 2 will produce about $2 million a year. The money will fund reinstatement of 35 teaching positions and reduce class size in targeted classrooms.

Question 3 will produce about $500,000 a year. The money will fund mid-day kindergarten transportation, allowing District 742 to offer half-day, every-day kindergarten. It also will fund transportation for students living between one and two miles from school.

Question 5 will produce about $400,000 a year. The money will provide student activities and expand fine arts programming.
